What happened
On the morning of the incident, the crew departed from Gizhika at 06:15 local time, operating a special flight within the Tayganos Peninsula area. While the aircraft was maintaining an altitude of approximately 150 meters under favorable weather conditions, the engine began to operate intermittently.
In response to the mechanical instability, the captain initiated an emergency landing procedure, attempting to land while the engine was windmilling. During the descent and touchdown, the aircraft type struck the ground, causing the loss of a portion of its tail section. The aircraft traveled approximately 80 meters before coming to a complete stop.
Although the impact caused the aircraft to be written off, there were zero fatalities among the four crew members on board. All occupants remained uninjured and were successfully rescued by a Mil Mi-4 helicopter crew four hours after the event, subsequently being transported back to Gizhiga Airport.
Findings
Investigation into the incident identified that the primary factor was an engine failure during flight. Preliminary conclusions suggest this malfunction may have been triggered by a failure within the carburetor. Records indicated that the aircraft had been maintained in accordance with all required procedures, and no pilot error was attributed to the crew.
