What happened
In the Korocha District of the Belgorod region, specifically near Sevryukovo, an aircraft that had been in storage since 2000 was being undergoing restoration efforts starting in August 2013. During a scheduled test flight, the crew, consisting of one pilot and one engineer, experienced a sudden engine failure while in flight.
Following the loss of power, the crew attempted to execute an emergency landing. During this maneuver, the aircraft struck the ground and overturned. The impact caused the plane to land upside down, which subsequently led to a fire that partially destroyed the airframe. Despite the severity of the crash and the resulting flames, both occupants managed to exit the wreckage and were reported to have sustained zero injuries.
Findings
- The primary issue identified during the flight was the failure of the engine.
- The aircraft was in a state of restoration at the time of the incident.
