What happened
During a night flight originating from Yerbogachon in the Irkutsk region, a single-engine airplane attempted to land at the Tayozhny Airfield, located in the Boguchany district of the Krasnyarsk region. The flight was conducted without proper authorization. Due to the lack of visibility associated with nighttime operations, the crew struggled to identify the abandoned airstrip visually.
After failing to locate the runway, the crew aborted two separate landing attempts. While performing a third approach, the aircraft struck trees in a forested area situated approximately 35 metres before the runway threshold. The impact caused the aircraft to burst into flames. The accident resulted in two fatalities among the crew and two serious injuries among the passengers.
Findings
- The crew was unable to maintain visual contact with the landing site due to nighttime conditions.
- The aircraft struck obstacles in a wooded area short of the runway during the third approach attempt.
