Incident Details
A military cargo aircraft was conducting a flight from Damascus to Abu Adh Dhuhur Air Force Base, carrying food, potable water, and ammunition for Syrian soldiers engaged in combat against the Islamic State. While on final approach during nighttime and foggy conditions, the aircraft descended below a safe altitude and collided with high tension cables. The collision caused the aircraft to stall, and it subsequently crashed in an open field near the airport.
Casualties and Damage
All 24 passengers and six crew members on board were killed in the accident. The aircraft was totally destroyed by the impact forces.
