What happened
During a scheduled cargo mission from Magadan to Anadyr, an aircraft operating for the Federal Border Guard Aviation Command experienced a mechanical emergency. The flight was transporting a cargo of spare parts for helicopters, accompanied by a total of 18 people, including seven crew members and 11 passengers.
While performing the final approach to the destination, the pilot notified air traffic control that the right engine had failed. Due to this loss of power, the pilot initiated an emergency landing procedure. The aircraft subsequently crash-landed in a field situated approximately 4 km before reaching the runway.
Upon impact with the ground, the landing gear was ripped from the airframe. The aircraft continued to slide for several dozen meters across the terrain before coming to a complete stop. While the aircraft was a total loss, all 18 occupants were successfully rescued from the wreckage, with four individuals sustaining injuries.
Findings
- The primary factor leading to the crash was the failure of the right engine during the final approach phase.
