What happened
During a nighttime cargo operation traveling from Krasnoyarsk to Bajkit via Yeniseysk, an aircraft carrying six crew members and six passengers struck terrain. The flight was transporting 3,700 kg of fruit at the time of the accident. While on final approach, the pilot determined that the aircraft was at an inadequate altitude and attempted a go-around procedure.
Upon increasing power to both engines, the aircraft followed an incorrect flight path and failed to achieve a sufficient rate of climb. Traveling at 232 km/h, the plane impacted treetops before stalling and crashing on a slope of a 410-meter high wooded hill, located approximately 1,700 meters beyond the end of runway 06. The accident resulted in four fatalities (one crew member and three passengers) and eight injuries.
Findings
Investigations determined that the pilot did not adhere to established procedures for executing a go-around, specifically regarding the incorrect flight path and insufficient climb rate. Additional contributing factors included inadequate flight preparation and the fact that the captain was operating at the Bajkit destination for the first time.
