An aircraft experienced a runway overrun at Kharkiv-Osnova Airport after failing to stop within the available runway length.

What happened

During an arrival at Kharkiv-Osnova Airport, an aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently on the runway. Due to the aircraft landing too far down the runway, the crew was unable to bring the plane to a halt before the end of the paved surface. This resulted in a runway overrun, where the aircraft exited the runway and came to a stop.

There were 58 people on board at the time of the incident. All occupants successfully evacuated the aircraft without sustaining any injuries. Following the event, the aircraft was determined to have sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.

Findings

  • The primary factor in the incident was the aircraft's position on the runway upon touchdown, which left insufficient distance for braking.
  • The aircraft was deemed damaged beyond repair following the excursion.

Probable cause

The aircraft landed too far down the runway, leaving insufficient distance to stop before the end of the runway.
