What happened
During a scheduled cargo operation traveling from Khmelnytskyi to Samara via Donetsk, an aircraft encountered severe weather conditions. The flight was operating at night under conditions of limited visibility caused by heavy rainfall and active thunderstorm activity.
As the crew performed the final approach, the aircraft drifted from the intended path. The crew did not recognize that the plane was misaligned with the runway centerline. Consequently, the aircraft type impacted the ground with significant force approximately 80 meters to the left of the runway surface. Following this hard landing, the aircraft veered out of control for several dozen meters before striking a building. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the airframe. There were five serious injuries reported among the occupants, with no fatalities.
Findings
- The approach was conducted in low-visibility conditions characterized by heavy rain and thunderstorms.
- The crew failed to maintain proper alignment with the runway centerline during the final approach phase.
