What happened
During a scheduled flight from Kisangani to Beni, an aircraft transporting 68 soldiers encountered significant issues immediately following touchdown. As the plane attempted to decelerate on the runway, it was unable to stop within the available distance. This led to a runway excursion where the aircraft overran the landing area and descended into an embankment.
Upon leaving the runway, the impact caused the aircraft to break into multiple fragments. The subsequent accident resulted in the aircraft catching fire, which ultimately led to the total destruction of the plane. Despite the severity of the crash and the resulting fire, all 72 occupants managed to evacuate the wreckage. The incident resulted in 10 injuries, though there were no fatalities reported among the passengers or crew.
Findings
- The aircraft failed to stop within the remaining runway length after landing.
