What happened
While performing a humanitarian mission for the United Nations Organization, an aircraft was conducting its final approach to the runway at Goma. Approximately 1,000 meters from the runway threshold, the flight encountered sudden windshear. In response to the changing wind conditions, the captain attempted to execute a go-around procedure. However, the aircraft was unable to maintain its altitude and continued to descend, eventually impacting the ground to the right of the runway.
As a result of the impact, the aircraft was destroyed. There were 10 injuries reported among the occupants, but no fatalities occurred during the accident.
Findings
- The primary factor in the loss of control was the encounter with windshear during the approach phase.
- The aircraft was unable to successfully complete the initiated go-around before striking the terrain.
