What happened
While performing a flight from Batumi to Baku, the aircraft was cruising at an altitude of 5,100 metres when the crew encountered adverse weather conditions. The flight was subjected to intense thunderstorms and severe turbulence during this period. Following these meteorological disturbances, the aircraft experienced a stall and subsequently entered an uncontrolled descent.
The aircraft ultimately struck a mountain slope at an elevation of 690 metres in the vicinity of Choporti. The impact caused the aircraft to disintegrate. There were 33 fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft.
Findings
- The aircraft encountered severe turbulence and thunderstorm activity during the cruise phase.
- The sequence of events involved an aerodynamic stall leading to a loss of control.
