What happened
During a local training mission operating out of Chuhuiv Air Base, an aircraft carrying a total of 27 occupants—consisting of 7 crew members and 20 cadets—experienced a catastrophic failure. While the aircraft was performing its approach to runway 16, the crew encountered significant engine-related difficulties. This led to a rapid loss of altitude, causing the plane to impact the ground approximately 2 km before reaching the runway threshold, near the E40 motorway.
Upon impact, the aircraft caught fire. The accident resulted in 25 fatalities and left two passengers with serious injuries. Following the initial crash, one of the survivors succumbed to their injuries several hours later, bringing the total death toll to 26.
Findings
Preliminary details indicate that the aircraft suffered from engine problems during the final approach phase, which prevented the crew from maintaining sufficient altitude to reach the runway.
