Single-engine aircraft crash in Lipetsk region

1 fatality • Maryinka, Russia • Flight

A crop-spraying aircraft crashed in a field near Maryinka, resulting in the death of the pilot following a loss of control after takeoff.

What happened

During a scheduled agricultural mission for the "Pobeda" state farm, an aircraft departed from Nikitskoye in the Tula region. Shortly after the departure phase, the flight experienced a critical malfunction involving the aircraft's control surfaces. The pilot attempted to mitigate the situation by jettisoning the chemical payload and maintained flight for approximately 8 km.

However, the aircraft eventually entered a steep left bank and inverted. The plane subsequently impacted a field belonging to the "Polibino" state farm, situated roughly 1.5 km northwest of Maryinka in the Dankov district of the Lipetsk region. The impact and subsequent intense fire completely consumed the airframe. There was one fatality involving the pilot, who was the only person on board at the time of the accident.

Findings

Official investigations into the crash were hampered by a lack of recoverable evidence, as the wreckage was destroyed by the impact and post-crash fire. Investigators could not definitively establish the precise origin of the mechanical failure. However, it is believed that malfunctioning flaps or ailerons led to the loss of control during the flight.

Probable cause

The exact cause remains undetermined due to insufficient evidence, though a failure of the flaps or ailerons is suspected.
