What happened
During a scheduled training operation at Čáslav Air Base, an aircraft carrying a total of 23 personnel—consisting of 14 Russian soldiers and 9 Czech soldiers—experienced a landing accident. As the aircraft touched down, it did so in a nose-down orientation, which resulted in the aircraft bouncing twice on the runway surface. Following these impacts, the nose landing gear failed and collapsed.
As the aircraft continued down the runway, it skidded along the pavement. The crew was unable to bring the aircraft to a halt before the end of the runway, leading to an overrun into an adjacent open field. The impact caused the airframe to break into two separate sections. Shortly after the overrun, a fire erupted, resulting in the partial destruction of the aircraft.
Findings
- The accident resulted in 7 injuries, with two of the occupants sustaining serious wounds.
- The primary factor in the accident was the nose gear collapse following a nose-down landing attitude and subsequent bounces.
