What happened
A four-engine aircraft departed from the Ivanovo-Severny Airbase while performing a survey mission. The flight was carrying a total of 10 crew members at the time of the incident. During the mission, the plane was struck by a surface-to-air missile, which caused the aircraft to catch fire.
Following the impact, the plane entered an uncontrolled descent. The aircraft eventually crashed into an open field situated near Kantemirovka. The impact and subsequent fire resulted in 10 fatalities, with no survivors reported among the crew.
Findings
The destruction of the aircraft was caused by a surface-to-air missile strike while the plane was in flight.
