What happened
A cargo operation traveling from Beni to Goma encountered mechanical difficulties shortly after departing Beni. During the initial climb, the pilot notified air traffic control of a technical malfunction involving the left main landing gear. Despite this issue, the flight proceeded toward its original destination in Goma.
As the aircraft approached Goma, the crew determined that an emergency landing was necessary due to the ongoing gear malfunction. The decision was made to divert the flight to Kigali International Airport. During the landing sequence at Kigali, the aircraft experienced a bounce on the runway surface. This caused the plane to veer off the paved surface and come to a halt.
Consequences
The accident resulted in 12 injuries, with all occupants sustaining serious harm. The aircraft, which was carrying 8 passengers and 4 crew members, sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
