What happened
During a scheduled cargo operation from Tyumen to Ufa, an aircraft carrying a crew of six and seven passengers was performing its approach to Ufa Airport. The flight was transporting a vehicle and a shipping container at the time of the accident. As the aircraft neared the runway on short final, the flight crew encountered challenging environmental conditions, including night operations, sleet, and low cloud cover, which resulted in restricted visibility.
While attempting the landing, the aircraft struck a line of trees approximately 1,098 metres before reaching the runway threshold. Following the impact with the trees, the plane lost altitude and drifted approximately 179 metres to the right of the runway's extended centerline. The aircraft subsequently crashed into a wooded area and caught fire upon impact. The accident resulted in eight fatalities and five injuries among the occupants.
Findings
- The flight was operating in poor weather conditions characterized by sleet and low visibility.
