Accident Overview
A cargo flight operating between Tyumen and Ufa encountered severe weather conditions during its approach to Ufa Airport. The aircraft was carrying seven passengers, six crew members, a car, and a container. As the crew attempted to land, they faced night conditions, sleet, low clouds, and limited visibility.
Approach and Collision
On short final approach, the aircraft struck trees located 1,098 meters short of the runway. After impacting the trees, the aircraft lost height and crashed in a wooded area approximately 179 meters to the right of the extended runway centerline. The impact triggered a fire, and the aircraft was engulfed in flames.
Casualties
The accident resulted in the deaths of eight occupants. Five other individuals sustained injuries.
Investigation Findings
The official investigation determined that the crew continued the approach despite visibility of 1,200 meters, which was below the minimums required at the time of the accident. This decision led to the aircraft colliding with obstacles and subsequently impacting terrain.
