What happened
Shortly after departing from Goma Airport for a flight destined for Kalima, the flight crew identified mechanical issues involving the engines. In response to the reported engine problems, air traffic control authorized the aircraft to perform an emergency return to the departure airfield.
During the landing sequence, the aircraft experienced a loss of directional control upon contacting the runway. The plane drifted toward the right side of the runway, eventually exiting the paved surface and colliding with lava blocks located near the airfield. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were five individuals on board during the incident, and all five occupants sustained injuries.
Findings
- The crew reported engine malfunctions during the initial climb phase.
- The aircraft failed to maintain its path on the runway following touchdown, leading to a collision with lava blocks off the runway perimeter.
