What happened
During the year 1998, an aircraft was involved in a landing accident at Kinshasa-N'Djili Airport. The incident occurred while the aircraft was performing its touchdown phase under conditions of heavy rainfall. Upon making contact with the runway, the nose landing gear failed and collapsed, causing the aircraft to come to a halt.
While the structural damage to the aircraft was severe enough to render it a total loss, there were no fatalities or injuries reported among the occupants. The aircraft was subsequently determined to be beyond economical repair.
Findings
- The accident took place during a period of heavy rain.
- The primary mechanical failure involved the collapse of the nose gear following touchdown.
