What happened
A cargo operation traveling from Arsenyev to Bukhta Provideniya, which included scheduled stops in Khabarovsk and Chaibukha, ended in an accident during departure from Chaibubkha Airport. The flight was transporting a payload of six tons of fruits and vegetables along with 15 passengers and 6 crew members.
As the aircraft began its takeoff roll, the pilot-in-command did not perform the necessary rotation to lift the plane off the ground. The aircraft continued along the runway for approximately 2,250 metres before exiting the paved surface. During the excursion, the plane breached a perimeter fence and eventually came to a stop in a swampy region. The impact and subsequent excursion resulted in 8 fatalities (comprising four crew members and four passengers) and 13 injuries. The aircraft was completely destroyed during the event.
Findings
The accident was triggered by a misunderstanding among the crew during the takeoff sequence, which led to the failure to initiate the takeoff rotation.
