What happened
On 1 July 2026, at Changi Airport in Singapore, a Boeing 767-300F freighter operated by United Parcel Service with registration N314UP proceeded beyond its designated runway holding point. The aircraft entered runway 20C while a New Zealand-registered aircraft, ZK-OKS, was in the process of starting its take-off roll on the same strip. Despite the close proximity of the two aircraft during this critical phase of flight, no damage to either airframe or injuries to personnel were reported.
The investigation
The Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) of New Zealand initiated an administrative inquiry to support the primary investigation led by Singapore’s Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB). This procedural step was taken to assist the lead authority in gathering necessary information regarding the incident involving a New Zealand-registered aircraft. However, the TSIB decided not to proceed beyond its preliminary assessment phase. Consequently, TAIC closed its administrative inquiry as no further substantive investigation was required by the lead authority.
