What happened
During a local training mission operating out of RAF Hullavington, a twin engine aircraft experienced a loss of control while approaching the airfield from the west. The flight was being conducted under challenging weather conditions at the time of the incident.
As the aircraft approached its destination, improper handling by the copilot in command caused the plane to become unmanageable. In an attempt to stabilize the situation, the captain tried to recover control of the aircraft. Despite these efforts, the plane went down in a field situated southeast of Little Sodbury, approximately eight miles west of the base. The accident resulted in two fatalities and left two others seriously injured.
Findings
Investigations into the crash determined that the primary factor was the improper actions taken by the copilot during the approach phase. These maneuvers led to the aircraft becoming uncontrollable, and subsequent attempts by the captain to regain command of the flight were unsuccessful.
