Two Royal Air Force Avro Anson aircraft collided during an aerial display at RAF Debden, resulting in the loss of both aircraft and both pilots.

What happened

During an airshow held at RAF Debden, a formation of several aircraft, including Avro Ansons and Oxfords, was performing maneuvers. During this flight, the Avro Anson with registration VS598, operated by the Royal Air Force, collided with another Avro Anson T.22, registered VS603.

Immediately following the impact, both aircraft lost control and descended into a field situated in Widdington, approximately 2.5 miles southwest of the airfield. The impact with the ground resulted in the total destruction of both airframes. There were two fatalities recorded, as both pilots on board the respective aircraft were killed in the crash.
