What happened

During an aerial display at RAF Debden, a formation of several aircraft including Avro Ansons and Oxfords was performing maneuvers. During this flight, the Avro Anson with registration VS603, operated by the Royal Air Force, collided with another Avro Anson T.22, registered VS598.

Immediately following the impact, both aircraft lost stability and entered an uncontrolled descent. The wreckage of both planes was located in a field situated in Widdington, approximately 2.5 miles southwest of the airfield. The accident resulted in two fatalities, as both pilots on board the respective aircraft were killed in the crash.
