What happened
A night flight operated by Scott Aviation departed from Montréal, Quebec, at 1756 EST, bound for Bromont, Quebec, under instrument flight rules. The aircraft was carrying a total of six people, including two crew members and four passengers. As the flight approached its destination, the co-pilot engaged the aircraft lighting and communicated with the approach UNICOM service. During this exchange, the crew was notified that the runway edge lights were non-functional, though the visual approach slope indicator and approach lights were operational.
At 1818 EST, the aircraft type touched down 1800 feet past the runway threshold and 300 feet to the left of Runway 05L. The aircraft traveled approximately 1800 feet along its path before coming to a halt in a ditch. During the incident, the crew attempted to shut down the engines, but the left engine failed to stop.
Following the stop, the co-pilot moved into the cabin to manage the evacuation. While one passenger attempted to use the emergency exit, they were unable to open it, and all occupants eventually exited through the main door. The accident resulted in three serious injuries and three minor injuries. The aircraft sustained major damage.
