What happened
During a night positioning flight from Moscow-Sheremetyevo Airport to Moscow-Vnukovo Airport, the flight crew encountered a mechanical failure during the approach phase. As the crew prepared the aircraft for landing, they discovered that the right main landing gear had failed to deploy and remained trapped within the wheel well.
To manage the situation, the crew entered a holding pattern to allow time for necessary preparations. Emergency services arrived at the airfield to treat the runway with foam in anticipation of the arrival. Following these precautions, the crew executed an emergency landing. Upon making contact with the runway, the right wing of the aircraft struck the ground. The aircraft continued to slide for several dozen meters before the movement ceased.
Findings
- The incident resulted in zero fatalities and zero injuries to the two pilots on board.
- The aircraft sustained damage that was determined to be beyond repair.
- The primary issue was identified as the failure of the right main landing gear to extend from its housing.
