What happened
During the landing phase on runway 09 at Caracas-Maiquetía-Simón Bolívar Airport, a twin engine aircraft lost control after touching down. The aircraft drifted toward the right side of the runway, exiting the paved surface and traveling into the area between runways 08 and 09. The excursion ended when the plane collided with the airport's fire station.
Initially, the accident resulted in two fatalities among the female passengers, while 19 other people on board sustained various injuries. Following the impact, a third passenger succumbed to their injuries several hours later, bringing the total death toll to three.
Findings
At the time of the incident, the airport was experiencing heavy rainfall, which left the runway surface in a wet condition. These poor weather conditions and the resulting slippery runway surface were significant factors during the landing sequence.
