Runway excursion at Güeppí Airport involving twin-engine aircraft

No fatalities • Güeppí, Peru • Landing (descent or approach)

A twin-engine airplane overran the runway at Güeppí Airport and collided with trees, resulting in the loss of the aircraft but no fatalities.

What happened

During an arrival at Güeppí Airport, a twin-engine airplane experienced a runway excursion while attempting to use runway 05. Following the touchdown, the aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently within the available runway length. The plane continued down the runway for approximately 50 metres before exiting the paved surface.

As the aircraft left the runway, it entered a heavily forested area. The sequence of events concluded when the plane struck several trees, leading to the total destruction of the airframe. Despite the impact with the vegetation, all 13 occupants were able to exit the wreckage. While the evacuation was successful, some individuals sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Findings

  • The aircraft was unable to come to a complete stop before the end of the runway.
  • The collision with trees occurred after the aircraft overran the runway boundaries.

Probable cause

The aircraft failed to stop within the remaining runway distance, leading to a runway overrun and collision with trees.
