What happened
A scheduled commercial flight was operating a route from Tuxtla Gutiérrez Airport with planned stops at Villahermosa and Veracruz before reaching its final destination in Mérida. The flight was carrying 17 passengers and two crew members aboard a twin engine aircraft.
While flying at 16,000 feet, approximately 50 miles from Villahermosa-Carlos Rovirosa Pérez Airport, the flight crew encountered adverse weather. During this period, the aircraft drifted approximately 24 km to the right of the V3 Airway. Following the initiation of a descent, air traffic control instructed the crew to provide a report at the 25 DME position.
While descending through cloud cover, the aircraft collided with a mountain slope in the vicinity of Chulum Juárez, situated roughly 80 km southeast of the Villahermosa airport. The impact occurred at an altitude of 1,890 meters. The aircraft broke apart upon hitting the terrain, resulting in 19 fatalities.
