Incident Overview

On 18 March 2016, a Beechcraft 1900D aircraft registered as AP-BII, operated by Aircraft Sales and Services (Private) Limited (ASSL), was conducting a chartered flight from Karachi to Sui. The aircraft took off from runway 25L at 0820 hours local time. Shortly after departure, the crew observed a loss of power from the right engine.

Sequence of Events

Following the engine malfunction, the flight crew executed a gear-up landing on the remaining runway surface, touching down to the right of the centerline. After touchdown, the aircraft veered off the runway to the right side before returning to the runway and eventually coming to a stop approximately 1,050 feet short of the runway end.

Injuries and Damage

The captain and one passenger sustained serious injuries as a result of the hard impact with the ground. All other passengers and the technician on board were uninjured. The aircraft sustained damage from the gear-up landing and subsequent ground contact.

Investigation Findings

The official investigation concluded that the probable cause of the event was an internal malfunction of the propeller governor (Part No. 8210-410, Serial No. 2490719), which led to an uncommanded auto feather. However, the exact cause of the malfunction could not be determined. Additionally, continuing the takeoff below V1 speed (104 knots) after encountering the engine malfunction, and raising the flaps below the recommended height (400 feet above ground level) after takeoff, resulted in a decrease in lift and loss of flight sustainability.
