What happened
During a local training session at Surabaya-Juanda Airport, a crew was performing a sequence of six scheduled landings. While on final approach for the fourth attempt, a landing gear warning alarm activated within the cockpit. In response to the perceived technical malfunction, the pilot-in-command applied additional engine power and began a go-around maneuver.
During this transition, the co-pilot simultaneously reduced power to both engines. This reduction in thrust led to a significant loss of airspeed, causing the aircraft type to enter a stall. The aircraft subsequently impacted the runway surface and veered toward the right side of the strip before coming to a halt. There were zero fatalities and zero injuries reported among the two crew members, though the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The activation of the landing gear alarm prompted an immediate change in flight profile.
- Asymmetric power application between the two pilots during the go-around procedure caused the loss of airspeed and the subsequent stall.
