Incident Overview
On a business flight from Teresina to Floriano, a twin-engine aircraft carrying seven passengers and one pilot diverted to Oeiras Airfield after the pilot was informed of deteriorating weather conditions at the intended destination. Among the occupants were Senator Ciro Nogueira and Vice-Governor Margarete Coelho of the State of Piauí.
Landing and Runway Excursion
The aircraft touched down on runway 11, which was wet from recent rainfall. Shortly after touchdown, the aircraft began to skid. The pilot lost control, and the aircraft veered off the left side of the runway, coming to rest in a wooded area approximately 10 meters from the runway edge.
Occupant Injuries and Aircraft Damage
All eight occupants were rescued from the aircraft. One passenger sustained minor injuries; no other injuries were reported. The aircraft was damaged beyond repair.
Official Findings
The official investigation identified contributing factors to the accident. These included undetermined aspects of control application, flight indiscipline for landing on a non-approved runway without justifiable reason, undetermined environmental influences from the wet and puddled runway, and failures in pilot judgment and decision-making processes. The pilot did not fully assess the risks of landing on an unapproved, wet runway, which affected directional control and braking performance.
