What happened
A flight departing from Goiânia-Santa Genoveva Airport, intended as a taxi flight to Caratinga, resulted in a fatal accident during the landing phase. The twin engine airplane was operating under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) when it was making its final approach to Carating and-Ubaporanga Airport.
During this approach, the aircraft struck a lightning rod positioned atop a high-voltage pylon. The force of the collision caused the left engine to be severed from the airframe. Following this impact, the aircraft entered a stall and descended into a river bed situated approximately 4.1 km before the threshold of runway 02. The impact with the ground led to the total destruction of the aircraft. There were five fatalities among the five people on board, including the two pilots and three passengers.
Findings
The primary factor in the accident was the collision with a high-voltage pylon structure during the final approach to the destination airport.
