What happened
An incident involving an unauthorized flight occurred at Tupelo Airport when an uncertificated pilot took control of an aircraft without permission. The individual's original intent was to crash the plane into a department store situated approximately two miles southeast of the airport. Instead, the pilot operated the aircraft within the local airspace for several hours.
The flight concluded when the pilot performed an off-airport landing in a field located roughly 32 miles northwest of the departure airfield. The impact of the landing resulted in substantial damage to the aircraft's fuselage. No injuries or fatalities were reported during the event.
