What happened
While operating a flight from Los Roques to Caracas, the crew of a twin-engine aircraft experienced mechanical difficulties involving the engines. In response to these engine problems, an emergency was declared, and the flight was cleared to divert to the Caracas-Maiquetía-Simón Bolívar Airport.
During the approach and landing phase at the diversion airport, the aircraft encountered significant crosswinds. As the plane touched down, the crew lost control of the aircraft, resulting in a crash into a drainage ditch situated approximately 45 metres from the runway. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft and left both pilots injured.
Findings
