Incident
While descending to Yurimaguas-Moisés Benzaquen Rengifo Airport, the right engine of the aircraft caught fire and exploded. For reasons that remain unknown, the flight crew was unable to extinguish the fire. The flames subsequently spread to the right wing.
Emergency Landing
The crew initiated an emergency descent and attempted to land the aircraft near Pongo de Caynarachi, approximately 50 kilometers south of Yurimaguas. During the landing, the aircraft lost its undercarriage and slid for several dozen meters before coming to rest, at which point it burst into flames.
Aftermath
Both pilots escaped from the aircraft uninjured. The aircraft itself was destroyed by the fire.
Investigation
An official investigation was conducted to determine the cause of the accident. The probable cause, as stated in the official findings, is that the exact cause of the fire on the right engine could not be determined.
