What happened
During a specialized mission in the eastern region of Afghanistan, a twin-engine aircraft crashed under circumstances that were initially unclear. The flight was conducting an Air Medium-Altitude Reconnaissance and Surveillance System (MARSS) operation at the time of the accident. The aircraft was manned by a crew of two, and a third individual, a member of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), was also on board.
Following the impact, the aircraft was completely destroyed. All three fatalities were confirmed, as there were no survivors among the occupants.
Findings
Official statements from a Defense official indicated that there was no evidence to suggest the aircraft was targeted or brought down by enemy fire. The specific cause of the crash remains unconfirmed, though the mission type was identified as a reconnaissance and surveillance task.
