What happened
While conducting a survey mission for the US Ministry of Defense, a four-engine airplane experienced a significant landing accident at Pyongtaek-Desiderio AAF (Camp Humphreys). During the landing phase, the aircraft struck the runway with excessive force, which resulted in the collapse of the right main landing gear.
Following the gear failure, the right wing made contact with the ground surface. The impact caused the aircraft to slide for several dozen meters across the airfield before it finally came to a stop. There were no fatalities or injuries reported among the occupants, as everyone on board evacuated the aircraft safely. The structural damage sustained during the incident was so severe that the aircraft was declared a total loss.
Findings
- The primary cause of the accident was a hard landing.
- The impact of the landing led to the structural failure of the right main gear and subsequent wing-to-ground contact.
