Event Description
On 16 July 2024, a serious incident occurred at Cologne/Bonn Airport involving an ATR 72-212A aircraft. The flight crew initiated a rejected takeoff, during which the aircraft departed the runway and collided with runway edge lighting. No persons on board were injured.
Aircraft Damage
The aircraft sustained light damage. Specific damage details include deformation and scratches to the lower fuselage, as well as damage to the nose landing gear and propeller blades.
Other Damage
Runway edge lighting was damaged. A total of 22 runway edge lights were affected, with 11 lights completely destroyed and 11 lights damaged.
Investigation
The German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) conducted the investigation. Data from the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder were available and analyzed. Ground radar data was also used. The investigation focused on the actions of the flight crew and the circumstances leading to the runway excursion. No probable cause has been stated.
