What happened
During the final approach and landing phase at Bahrain-Muharraq Airport, a four-engine airplane experienced a difficult touchdown on runway 30. The aircraft initially struck the runway surface with significant force, causing it to bounce before making a second contact. During this subsequent impact, the nose gear failed.
Following the collapse of the forward landing gear, the aircraft slid along the runway for several hundred meters. During the course of the slide, the plane veered toward the right side of the runway before eventually coming to a complete stop.
Findings
- All 81 occupants on board the aircraft were able to evacuate the plane without sustaining any injuries.
- The aircraft sustained damage that was determined to be beyond repair.
- Observations indicated that the aircraft was unstable during the final segment of the flight prior to the landing incident.
