What happened
During a nighttime approach to Abidjan-Félix Houphouët Boigny Airport, an aircraft encountered visibility conditions reduced to 1,250 metres because of isolated low-level cloud cover. While performing the short final phase of the flight, the aircraft made contact with the ground approximately 30 metres before reaching the threshold of runway 21.
The force of the impact caused the undercarriage to be ripped from the airframe. Following the initial strike, the aircraft continued to slide on its belly for several dozen metres before the movement ceased. Despite the severity of the impact, all six crew members were able to evacuate the aircraft without injury.
Findings
- The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it beyond repair.
