What happened
A flight operating as a ferry mission from Bangui to Harare, which included a planned stop in Brazzaville, crashed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The aircraft, which had been stationary at Bangui Airport for nearly a year prior to this flight, was being relocated to Zimbabwe for scheduled maintenance. On board were two pilots and five technicians.
While the aircraft was maintaining cruising altitude over the DRC, it entered an uncontrolled descent. The plane struck a heavily wooded area located near Massamba in the Bandundu Province. The force of the impact caused the aircraft to disintegrate. There were 7 fatalities among the occupants, with no survivors reported from the crash site.
Findings
The aircraft was being repositioned specifically for maintenance purposes following a long period of inactivity at its previous location.
