What happened
On 28 August 2015, a Boeing 737-300 freighter, operating under the registration PK-BBY, was performing a scheduled cargo mission from Sentani Airport to Wamena Airport in Papua, Indonesia. The flight, managed by PT. Cardig Air, was carrying 14,610 kg of cargo with a two-person flight crew on board. During the flight, the pilot in command served as the pilot flying, while the second in command, who was undergoing line training, acted as the pilot monitoring.
As the aircraft approached the destination, the crew received updated weather information from the Wamena Tower, including wind conditions and barometric pressure. The flight proceeded through various waypoints, including Pass Valley and Jiwika, as the crew transitioned to the final approach for runway 15.
Upon reaching the runway, the aircraft touched down approximately 35 meters before the start of the runway threshold. During the landing roll, the aircraft experienced a vertical acceleration of 3.68 G. This impact caused the left main landing gear to collapse, leading the left engine to make contact with the runway surface. The aircraft eventually came to a halt roughly 1,500 meters from the runway threshold. There were no injuries reported among the crew.
Findings
Prior to the landing incident, there were no recorded or reported malfunctions regarding the aircraft systems. The primary mechanical failure noted during the sequence was the structural failure of the left main landing gear upon touchdown.
