What happened
During a night-time training mission originating from RAF Marham, an aircraft entered an uncontrolled descent. While the flight was maintaining an altitude of 19,000 feet, the pilot-in-command lost control of the plane, causing it to enter a steep dive.
As the aircraft descended to approximately 850 feet, the structural integrity of the plane failed, leading to an in-flight breakup. The wreckage was scattered across a debris field spanning more than five miles before the remains finally came to rest in an open field situated near Llanarmon-yn-Iâl. No distress signals or mayday calls were transmitted by the crew prior to the impact. The accident resulted in ten fatalities, with no survivors among the ten occupants.
Findings
Investigators were unable to establish a definitive reason for why the pilot lost control of the aircraft during the cruise phase of the flight.
