Accident Overview
On the day of the accident, a twin-engine aircraft was operating a charter flight from Belize City to a private airstrip at Privacion, serving Blancaneaux Lodge. On board were the pilot and two US citizens who were on their honeymoon.
At 1016 local time, the pilot reported over La Democracia and indicated that all on board appeared to be in good condition. The flight was descending toward Privacion Aerodrome when weather conditions deteriorated due to the approach of Tropical Storm Gamma.
The aircraft crashed in a wooded area located about 5 km from its intended destination, in mountainous terrain. The wreckage was discovered at the end of the same day.
Occupants and Fatalities
All three persons on board—the pilot and the two honeymooners—were killed in the accident.
Search and Wreckage
Search efforts located the wreckage later in the day in a mountainous, wooded region. The aircraft was destroyed.
Weather Conditions
Tropical Storm Gamma was approaching Belize at the time of the accident, and weather conditions deteriorated as the aircraft descended toward the destination.
