What happened
During a flight conducted under visual flight rules (VFR) while operating in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) characterized by falling snow, the crew encountered a mountain peak. In an attempt to maneuver away from the terrain and prevent a collision, the pilot applied additional engine power. Despite this effort, the aircraft struck trees and crashed within a forested region on Takami Peak, situated near Kawatana.
Findings
- The flight was being operated in low-altitude conditions with poor visibility due to active snowfall.
- The impact with the trees resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft.
