What happened
While operating a flight from Bandung toward Jakarta, the crew received clearance to reduce their altitude from 6,500 feet down to 4,500 feet. Shortly after this instruction, the twin engine airplane was flying at an altitude of approximately 2,700 feet when it collided with the terrain on the slope of Mt Cemonyet. The accident occurred roughly 64 km southeast of Jakarta. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft and caused the deaths of all 13 occupants.
Findings
Investigations into the crash identified that the crew initiated a descent before it was appropriate, which led to the aircraft dropping below the minimum safe altitude. Additionally, the presence of poor weather conditions and reduced visibility acted as contributing factors during the flight phase.
