On a scheduled training mission, a twin-engine aircraft departed from Salamanca-Matacán AFB at 11:40 local time. The flight plan involved a circular route that would take the aircraft over the areas of Béjar and Ávila before returning to the departure airfield. During the mission, the aircraft impacted a mountain slope in the vicinity of Pinofranqueado, situated approximately 100 km southwest of the base.

The wreckage of the aircraft remained undiscovered for 11 days. It was eventually located on March 17 within a canyon at an elevation of 1,200 meters. The accident resulted in five fatalities, with no survivors among the crew.
