What happened
A cargo flight operating out of Cayenne-Rochambeau-Félix Eboué Airport experienced a critical mechanical failure shortly after departure. The aircraft, a single-engine airplane, was transporting food supplies to Maripasoula on behalf of a restaurant at the time of the incident.
During the initial climb phase, the aircraft's engine suffered a loss of power. In response to the emergency, the pilot attempted to manage the descent by reducing altitude and seeking a suitable landing site. The pilot identified a known open area in the vicinity of the airport to perform an emergency landing.
As the aircraft was on short final approach, it struck an embankment. The impact caused the plane to flip over and come to rest in an upside-down position. The accident resulted in one serious injury to the pilot, who was the only person on board. The aircraft was completely destroyed during the impact.
Findings
The primary factor in the accident was the loss of engine power during the early stages of flight.
