What happened
During an approach to Donaueschingen-Villingen Airport, a single engine airplane encountered challenging meteorological conditions characterized by heavy fog and restricted visibility. As the aircraft was descending toward its destination, it impacted trees in a hilly region near Fürstenberg, situated approximately 9 km southeast of the airfield at an elevation of 918 meters.
The impact was followed by a significant post-crash fire that consumed the wreckage. Of the six people on board, three fatalities were recorded, while the remaining three survivors were rescued from the scene.
Findings
- The accident occurred during the descent phase of flight.
- Poor visibility caused by fog was a primary factor during the approach to the airport.
